On ~a second thought~ , those embezzling public funds should sense the vanity of life now (nonstandard).
On second thoughts , those embezzling public funds should sense the vanity of life now (standard). Note, however, that the idiom “on second thoughts” is different from the idiom “without a second thought” which does not attract an ‘s’: The president declared a lockdown without a second thought.
