“NEED” IN TAG QUESTIONS

  1. When the verb needs precedes another verb, it forms the tag:
We need to leave early- needn’t we?
  2. When need is preceded by an auxiliary verb, the auxiliary verb forms the tag:
We can’t need it today- can we?
  3. When need is the only verb in a sentence, do, does or did forms the tag:
    We need money- don’t we?

Now, put yourself to the test by forming the tags

  1. We could have left early.
  2. He doesn’t sing.
  3. We need not see him.
  4. He had a great time.
  5. He hadn’t had lunch when I arrived.
