English for Today by Ganiu Abisoye Bamgbose (Dr GAB)
MORE ON H’s
H-insertion: This has been explained as situations where many English as second language speakers articulate h in words that do not have the sound such as egg which is usually erroneously pronounced as /heg/.
H-deletion: This is equally prominent among second language speakers of English who tend to omit the /h/ sound in h-ful words such as house.
Let the general reader take note that Nigerians who do not have the /h/ sound in their mother tongues have to be more careful in dealing with the different variants of the sound.
