English for Today by Ganiu Abisoye Bamgbose (Dr GAB)
UNSEEN K
The English Language does not only have silent letters but it also has a number of sounds that are erroneously omitted in words by second language users of the language. The following words contain sound /k/ without letter k:
Success /səksɛs/
Accept /əkˈsɛpt/
Except /ɪkˈsɛpt, ɛkˈsɛpt/
Text /tɛkst/
Elect /ɪˈlɛkt/
Reflect /rɪˈflɛkt/
The general reader should ensure that the sound is articulated in the pronunciation of these words.
