ARTICULATING PLURAL MARKERS
When a singular noun ends with a voiceless consonant such as p, t, k, the s plural marker is pronounced as /s/:
Cups /kʌps/
Cats /kats/
Lock /lɒks/
When a singular noun ends with a vowel or a voiced consonant such as b, d, g, l, a, the s plural marker is realised as /z/
Clubs /klʌbz/
Lords /lɔːdz/
Eggs /egz/
Calls /kɔːlz/
Cars /kɑːz/
When singular nouns end in sibilant sounds, otherwise known as hissing sounds (s, tʃ, ʃ), the es plural marker is realised as /iz/:
Class /klɑːsiz/
Church /tʃəːtʃiz/
Lashes /laʃiz/
