SPELLING IN ACADEMIC WRITING

A short piece of writing at the beginning of a book written by someone aside the author is a ~forward~ (nonstandard).
A short piece of writing at the beginning of a book written by someone aside the author is a foreword (standard).

Note that there are two s’s in the spelling of ~festchcrift~ (nonstandard).
