BRITISH AND AMERICAN ENGLISHES

These two leading varieties of English differ in four ways, namely: Grammar, Vocabulary, spelling and pronounciation.

Each of these will be discussed.

GRAMMER: the following are some of the grammatical differences;

  1. British English favours the present perfect tense while American English prefers the simple past tense: What have you eaten? I’ve eaten rice (BrE) What did you eat? I ate rice (AmE)
