Is your friend the ~panic~ type (nonstandard)?
Is your friend the panicky type (standard)?
Panic is both a noun and a verb but not an adjective.
She hit him in panic (noun).✔️
She panicked when she saw him (verb). ✔️
She was panic when she saw him (adjective). ✖️
She was panicky when she saw him (adjective). ✔️
