RELATIVE PRONOUN CONCORD

This rule applies to relative pronouns like who, which, whose, that and so on. When they (relative pronouns) are used immediately before a noun or a pronoun, the verb which immediately follows will be controlled by that noun or pronoun which is close to the relative pronoun and any other verb will be controlled by the main subject of the sentence.

1. The number of boys who LIVE here IS alarming.

This can be detached as: Boys live here; the number is alarming.

2. All of the people who STUDY English ARE brilliant.

This can also be detached as: People study English; all are brilliant.

None of the boys whose father LIVES here is serious. This can be detached as: A father lives here. NONE of his children IS serious.
