We bless God that no one died; it was a *ghastly* accident (not, fatal). When an accident results in the death of one or more persons, it’s *fatal* but when it’s severe but doesn’t cause any death, it’s *ghastly*.
She won’t share her problems with you. She’s very *reserved* (not, secretive). A person who is slow at talking about his or her emotional issues is reserved.
She left earlier than planned because *she could not paddle her own canoe* and I wasn’t ready to give her anything (to paddle one’s own canoe means being independent and able to cater for oneself; it does not mean to poke your nose into someone else’s affair.)
