BASIC SENTENCE TYPES

The basic parts of a sentence are: subject, verb, object, complement, adjunct. These five can generate nine basic sentenc types. They are as follows:

1. V (Verb) Come. Vamoose.

2. SV(Subject Verb) Jesus wept. The man died.

3. SVO (Subject Verb Object) He hit my head. Kunle killed the goat.

4. SVOO (Subject Verb (direct) Object (indirect) Object) I gave Kunle the book. I left the work for him.

5. SVC (Subject Verb Complement) Gani is a teacher. She is happy.

6. SVOC (Subject Verb Object Complement) We call him Teacher GAB. I found the game interesting.

7. SVA (Subject Verb Adjunct) The boy is here. We came this morning.

8. SVOA (Subject Verb Object Adjunct) He saw me yesterday. I loved the game then.

9. SVOCA (Subject Verb Object Complement Adjunct) We made Buhari our ruler in 2015. We considered him worthy before now.
