My friend has finally bagged a ~doctorate degree~ in Linguistics (nonstandard).
My friend has a doctorate in Linguistics (standard). Doctorate means the highest degree from a university, so the inclusion of “degree” to the sentence is redundant.
Toast is finally a PhD holder (nonstandard)!
Toast is finally a PhD (standard)! PhD is the abbreviation for doctor of philosophy: the highest college or university degree or someone who has the degree.
Today, I celebrate my friend and ~fellow colleague~ (nonstandard).
