ALTAR or ALTER?

Nothing should ~altar~ the plan for tomorrow (nonstandard).
Nothing should *alter* the plan for tomorrow (standard).
If something alters or if you alter it, it changes.

Don’t play around the ~alter~ (nonstandard).
Don’t play around the *altar* (standard).
An altar is a holy table in a church or temple.

The altar is also used in Christianity to refer to the ceremony of marriage:
She was just 18 when she was led to the *altar*. ✔️
