APPENDIX, APPENDIXES, APPENDICES

Appendix has two meanings:

  1. A tube-shaped sac attached to and opening into the lower end of the large intestine in humans and some other mammals: She had her appendix out for the operation.
  2. A section or table of subsidiary matter at the end of a book or document: A good book should have an appendix.

The plural of the first meaning (part of the body) is appendixes.
The plural of the second meaning (a section of a book) is appendices.
