BORROW or LEND?

To borrow is to take or receive something belonging to someone else with the intention of returning it:
He had lent some books from his colleague before he travelled. ✖️
He had borrowed some books from his colleague before he travelled. ✔️

To lend is to grant to someone the use of something on the understanding that it will be returned.
I borrowed him some books before he travelled. ✖️
I lent him some books before he travelled. ✔️
