NOTE:

The election is becoming hot (nonstandard).
The election is hotting up (standard).
To hot up is to become more exciting or dangerous with a lot more activities.

GAB is hot in grammar (nonstandard).
GAB is hot on grammar (standard). To know a lot about something is to be hot on it.

These yams are cost (nonstandard).
These yams are costly (standard). The word “cost” is not an adjective and cannot be used as such.
