COMMON ERRORS

English for Today by Ganiu Abisoye Bamgbose (GAB)

I can’t take any solids now (not, swallow). Solids refer to food that are not liquid-based. We should also note that the word is always in plural form; solids (not, solid) so eba is solids and not “swallow”.

He had done no more than pay lip service to my views (not, a lip service). This idiom does not attract article “A”.

I have filled in the application form (not, I have filled the application form). However, Americans say ” fill out” the form.
