I was supposed to call, but it ~skipped~ my mind (nonstandard).
I was supposed to call, but it *slipped* my mind (standard).
If something slips your mind, you forget it.

I didn’t mean to say that; it was ~a slip of tongue~ (nonstandard).
I didn’t mean to say that it was *a slip of the tongue* (standard).
If you describe something you said as a slip of the tongue, you mean that you said it by mistake.
