Dealing with English Sounds
It is important to note that the English sounds are distinct from the letters. Letters do not always generate their equivalents in sounds.
As we begin classes with PROBLEMATIC AREAS OF ENGLISH SOUNDS in the first two weeks, we shall, today, discuss briefly the confusion with letters s and z in their realisation as sounds.
Z is pronounced as /s/ in:
Pizza /pɪtsə/
paparazzo /ˌpapəˈratsəʊ /
Paparazzi //ˌpæp.ərˈæt.si/
S is pronounced as /z/ in:
Lose /luːz/
President /ˈprɛzɪdənt/
Nose /nəʊz/
