When the president arrived, a loud shout rent the air (standard). The verb used to talk about a loud shout happening suddenly is rend and the past tense is rent, not rented.
I enjoy ~roasted~ corn a lot (nonstandard).
I enjoy roast corn a lot (standard). Note, however, that Americans use “roasted” in this context too.
