MAYBE or MAY BE?
“Maybe” (as a single word) is an adverb used to show that something is possible or that something might be true:
May be he is not ready for that now. ✖️
Maybe he is not ready for that now. ✔️
“May be” is a verb phrase which is also used to express “probability” or “uncertainty” but the words have to be separated:
I maybe interested when it’s time. ✖️
I may be interested when it’s time. ✔️
You may be the next president if you’re found competent, just maybe.
