English for Today by Ganiu Abisoye Bamgbose (Dr GAB)
PERSONAL PRONOUNS
He is taller than ~me~ (nonstandard).
He is taller than *I* (standard).
She is as smart as ~him~ (nonstandard).
She is as smart as *he* (nonstandard).
NOTE: When the personal pronoun is found after conjunctions such as “than” and “as”, the subjective form is used. Sentence 1, for instance, will be fully realised as:
He is taller than I am tall. ✔️
He is taller than me is tall. ✖️
However, in informal conversation, it is not out of place to use the nonstandard forms.
