PREDOMINATE or DOMINATE?

When you mean to say that people or things are the largest in number, you use the verb “predominate”:
The Northerners ~dominate~ Nigeria so they mainly determine who wins an election by their population (nonstandard).
The Northerners predominate Nigeria so they mainly determine who wins an election by their population (standard).

To dominate is to have power or influence over others:
Dangote ~predominates~ the Nigerian economic space (nonstandard).
Dangote dominates the Nigerian economic space (standard).
