SOME VERBS DON’T ATTRACT -ING
Verbs of the mind, emotion and senses don’t take -ing except:
1. When used as a gerund (-ing verbs that serve as nouns are called gerund) and participal (-ing verbs that function as adjectives are participal): Seeing is believing (seeing in the sentence is a gerund and believing is an adjective).
2. When “see” means an arrangement to meet with someone: I am seeing my doctor tomorrow.
3. When “hear” refers to a legal case: The court is hearing the case tomorrow.
