Using COMPANY in contexts

The director, ~in company of~ other staff members, is working hard to prevent any trouble (nonstandard).
The director, *in company with* other staff members, is working hard to prevent any trouble (standard).
“In company” should be used with the preposition “with”.

He’s always at home ~in the company with~ his cat (nonstandard).
He’s always at home *in the company of* his cat (standard).
“In the company” collocates with “of”.

She doesn’t talk much when we are ~in the company~ (nonstandard).
She doesn’t talk much when we are *in company* (standard).
When you are in company, you are with a person or group of people.
