English for Today by Ganiu Abisoye Bamgbose (GAB)

PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE

This performs the following functions:

1. It talks about an ongoing action. Example: I am reading GAB’s daily lessons.

2. It talks about an action that is going on at about a time or period but not necessarily at the moment of talking. Example: I am writing a book titled “Speaking English without Interference”.

3. It can be used with the adverb “always” to show habituality. Example: She is always coming home late.

4. It can be used to talk about a specific future action: I am seeing my doctor tomorrow morning.

However, some verbs can’t be used in the continuous tense. These verbs shall be discussed in the next class.
