PUT TO BED

1. The woman put to bed yesterday (West African English).
The use of this idiom in this sense is not found in most recognised dictionaries but is popular among Africans.

2. The idiom means to successfully deal with something or solve a problem:
We thought we had put the issue to bed but the manager identified some other problems.

3. In journalism, to put to bed is to finalise work on a newspaper, magazine, etc so that it is ready to go to press:
We have put this week’s edition of the magazine to bed.

4. In American English, to put to bed is to to get a child ready for sleep:
I needed to put my baby to bed before I could eat.
